Highly Sensitive Person

Orchid Highly Sensitive Person HSP

Have you often been told, "You're too Sensitive?"…

One of my focus areas in my work is highly sensitive people (HSP). HSP is a personality trait found in approximately 20% of people characterized by a finely attuned nervous system. It is hereditary and it is neither a negative quality nor a disorder. High sensitivity creates a greater capacity for empathy, a heightened awareness of one's surroundings and environment (such as sounds, light, and scents), and a propensity for processing information on a deeper level. In short, if you are highly sensitive you likely find that you feel things more intensely than others do. Being highly sensitive does carry with it inherent challenges, especially in an increasingly overwhelming and fast-paced world.  Working with an HSP-trained therapist to learn tools to cope can be a powerful step in harnessing the gifts of your sensitivity.  To find out if you may be a highly sensitive person, please take Elaine Aron's self-test.
